J. M. DENT & SONS:
Selected Production Photographs from the Dent Collection
Wilson Library, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
In 1906, J.M. Dent opened the Temple Press in Letchworth, a "garden city" located
in Hertfordshire, 34 miles north of London. Designed to produce the Everyman
series, the Press employed over 400 workers and issued 152 titles in the first
year of operation.
The production photographs are from the Temple Press, circa 1935. Most
of the images and captions appear in A Tour of the Temple Press by James
Thornton, first published by J.M. Dent & Sons in 1935.
