Abstract William Willard Ashe was a native of North Carolina; botanist, and forester with the North Carolina Geological Survey, 1892-1905, and the United States Forest Service, 1905-1932. The collection includes professional correspondence, chiefly 1898-1932, and other papers of William Willard Ashe, including correspondence with academic and government botanists and with members of the timber industry, concerning plant specimens, forestry techniques and products, and soil conservation and flood control. Personal and professional pictures, field notes, and drafts of Ashe's writings also appear.

William Willard Ashe, son of Samuel A'Court and Hannah Emerson Willard Ashe, was an active forester and botanist. He was forester for the the North Carolina Geological Survey, 1898 1905, and served with the United States Forest Service in Washington, D.C., 1905-1932.

The collection documents Ashe's work chiefly through correspondence between Ashe and other foresters, botanists, and timber industrialists. Also included are field notes, personal and professional pictures, and writings by Ashe.
