Abstract Thomas Burke was a native of Ireland who emigrated first to Virginia where he practiced medicine, then to North Carolina (1771) where he was a lawyer. He served in the provincial congress; was a delegate to the Continental Congress; and was governor, 1781-1782. The collection is the papers of Thomas Burke. Burke's early papers deal with personal and business affairs. Later papers pertain to public affairs while he was governor and include both civil and military materials of the Revolutionary period. Also included are papers relating to the settlement of Burke's estate.
