Abstract Herbert Arthur Cooley (fl. 1863-1864) of Lockport, N.Y., served in the 3rd New York Calvalry near New Bern, N.C., and Kinston, N.C., Newport News, Va., and Portsmouth, Va., and other locations in eastern North Carolina and Virginia. The collection includes typed transcriptions of letters from Herbert Arthur Cooley to his parents in Lockport, N.Y., while he was serving with the 3rd New York Cavalry, about military engagements and other military activities.
