Abstract | Flowe's Store, located in Cabarrus County, N.C., was named for Daniel W. Flowe, who opened the store in 1881. Though it closed in 1925, as of 2007, the store's building was still standing. The collection consists of day books, journals, and ledgers from Flowe's Store in Cabarrus County, N.C. The day books date from 1881 to 1888 and document the daily sales of Flowe's Store, noting buyer's name, purchases, and cost of each item. There are also journals, 1881-1886, that record specific customers' purchases over time; a ledger that presents a consolidated version of the material from the journals, 1882-1886; and three small ledgers, 1878-1880. |

The Presbyterian Historical Society in Montreat, N.C., owned the Flowe's Store materials until 2007; the three small ledgers were labeled by the Society as "cotton ledgers," but their connection to cotton is unclear.
