Abstract Ina Bell Forbus (d. 1994) was an award-winning Scottish-born author of children's books who lived in Durham, N.C., beginning in 1935. Her books include The Magic Pin (1956), The Secret Circle (1958), Dogs Are My Patients (with Louis L. Vine, 1961), Melissa (1962), and Tawney's Trick (1965). Forbus also wrote numerous short stories and poems, many of which were inspired by the rural North Carolina farm she shared with her husband, diplomat and hospital administrator Sample B. Forbus. The collection includes correspondence; files relating to her literary career and other interests; manuscripts of books, poems, short stories, and other writings; inscribed copies of books; clippings of reviews of Forbus's work and stories about her; photographs; and other items relating to Ina B. Forbus.
