Size 0.5 feet of linear shelf space (approximately About 225 items)
Abstract Maria Miller Hill Franck (fl. 1859-1871), a Quaker from Jones County, N.C., was first married to Samuel Hill (died 1859) of Randolph County, N.C., then to John Martin Franck (died 1868) of Onslow County, N.C. The collection is personal correspondence of Maria Miller Hill Franck and includes letters, chiefly 1867-1871, from her relatives and friends in Goldsboro, New Bern, Kinston, Richlands, and other eastern North Carolina towns, with several letters also from New Garden, N.C.; Carthage, Ind.; and Galesburg, Ill. The letters give news of the households of the writers, refer to Quaker affairs, and allude to a dispute over Samuel Hill's will. The collection also contains a small diary kept by Franck with intermittent entries, 1859-1869, that are primarily introspective.
