Abstract North Carolina literary critic Linda Whitney Hobson received her Ph.D. in English from the University of Alabama. Hobson wrote Understanding Walker Percy for the Understanding Contemporary American Literature series and Walker Percy: A Comprehensive Descriptive Bibliography, both published in 1988. The collection includes materials related to Hobson's work on southern writer Walker Percy and other writings by Hobson. Percy materials include subject files and printed material, including clippings. Subject files contain correspondence, writings about Percy and his works, notes on his works, and information about conferences and symposia in which Hobson participated. Correspondents include author Patrick H. Samway, Jan Nordby Gretlund, Patricia Lewis Poteat of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Lewis A. Lawson. Printed material consists of articles about Walker Percy and his writings, especially Love in the Ruins (1971), Lancelot (1977), and The Thanatos Syndrome (1987). Also included are Hobson's book reviews, articles, and related materials about subjects other than Percy.

Literary critic Linda Whitney Hobson received her Ph.D. in English from the University of Alabama. In the 1970s, she wrote several book reviews for the Journal and Sentinel newspaper of Winston-Salem, N.C., and other publications. Hobson wrote Understanding Walker Percy in 1988 for the Understanding Contemporary American Literature series. Her interest in the life and work of Percy led to another publication in 1988, Walker Percy: A Comprehensive Descriptive Bibliography. Hobson has also worked as an editor and arts administrator and has been active in the North Carolina literary scene.

Files contain correspondence, writings about Walker Percy and his works, notes on his works, and information about conferences and symposia in which Hobson participated as presenter or organizer. Correspondents include Patrick H. Samway of America magazine, Jan Nordby Gretlund, Patricia Lewis Poteat of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Lewis A. Lawson. Conferences include the Pirate's Alley Faulkner Society; the Walker Percy Symposium; the Kanuga Conference; and the Tennessee Williams Literary Festival, for which she served on the Programming Committee. Hobson also helped organize some of these meetings and panels and kept notes, brochures, and other items related to them. Printed material and clippings are arranged chronologically and consist of articles written about Walker Percy and his writings. The Walker Percy writings most often referred to in the subject files or clippings are Love in the Ruins (1971), Lancelot (1977), and The Thanatos Syndrome (1987).
