Abstract J. B. (John Beauchamp) Jones (1810-1866) was an editor, author, and Confederate War Department clerk. The collection is chiefly family correspondence of Jones's wife, Frances T. Custis Jones. The bulk of the collection consists of letters, 1830s and 1840s, received by Frances Jones from her Parsons and Custis relatives in Accomack county, Va., Northhampton county, Va., and Norfolk, Va.; in Wilmington, Del.; and in New Bern, N.C. Most of these letters concern family and community affairs; some of them are from or about Governor Henry Alexander Wise, a kinsman. Also included is some 1860s correspondence of J. B. Jones, while he was a clerk in the Confederate War Department; a draft of an unpublished novel intended to be volume 2 of his "Wild Western Scenes" (1841); a European travel diary, 1893, of the Reverend Custis P. Jones, son of J. B. Jones; and other items.
