Abstract James Thomas Leach (1805-1883) was a physician, Whig anti-secessionist, and member of the Confederate Congress, of Johnston County, N.C. The collection consists of pamphlets, circulars, and clippings, some including public statements of James Thomas Leach concerning politics (chiefly during Reconstruction, with only a few antebellum and Confederate items) and advocating prohibition; an undated draft of a letter to the editor, presumably by Leach, concerning the sentiment of the North Carolina Confederate Congressional delegation; and other items.

The collection contains pamphlets, circular letters, and clippings, including public statements of James Thomas Leach and other contemporary politicians. Chief among the topics are political concerns (primarily during Reconstruction, with only a few antebellum and Confederate items) including prohibition, taxation, the Confederate Congress, and government spending. There is also an undated draft of a letter to the editor, presumably by Leach, concerning the sentiment of the North Carolina Confederate Congressional delegation.
