expand/collapse Expand/collapse Series 7. Addition of March 1970, 1793-1965 and undated.

Arrangement: chronological.

This addition primarily contains family and personal correspondence of the Perkins family of Connecticut, New York, and Athens, Pa., and their Eglin connections. The papers relate to the Maurice family in that Ethel Eglin married George H. Maurice in 1898.

The earliest item is dated 1762, and is a summons from Charles City County, Va., Peter vs. Eppes. Beginning in 1793 is the correspondence of Rebecca Huntington, daugher of Felix Huntinton (1749-1823) of Norwich, Conn., and her Perkins family relatives. Along with family letters are deeds of members of the Perkins family for land in New London County, Conn. The correspondence from the 1820s and 1830s primarily consists of letters between Rebecca Huntington, who moved to Ithaca, N.Y., around 1820, and other women in her family. The letters of the 1840s and 1850s are correspondence of Edward H. Perkins of Athens, Pa., and his family, chiefly his brothers and sisters in New York and the New England area. There are several letters from 1861-1863 that concern the Civil War, including some letters by Henry E. Alvord, lieutenant in the 2nd Mass. Calvary. Papers from 1866-1896 are scattered items related to Alvord, Perkins, and Eglin families. There are also scattered papers from 1901-1965 addressed to Henry W. T. and Patty Eglin in Lewinsville, Va., along with other letters. Also included are genealogical and biographical information, and information about the Jackson house in Lewinsville, Va.; an account book, circa 1778-1790, and an arithmetic book circa 1793-1796. Note that a new numbering sequence has been applied to this addition.
