Abstract Ezekiel Henry McCluire was a lawyer, deputy marshal of the United States, and clerk and master of the Superior Court of Equity for Buncombe County, N.C. The collection includes deeds, accounts, bills, receipts, notes, and legal proceedings of various persons in Buncombe County, N.C., accumulated by McCluire through his law practice, chiefly 1830-1860; some legal and personal correspondence of McCluire; and postmaster's accounts, Reems Creek, Buncombe County, 1858-1864.

Ezekiel Henry McCluire (fl. 1830-1860) was a lawyer, deputy marshal of the United States, and clerk and master of the Superior Court of Equity for Buncombe County, N.C. His wife was Tabitha Savage McCluire, who taught at Iola Academy in Franklin, N.C., prior to their marriage.

The collection includes deeds, accounts, bills, receipts, and legal proceedings of various persons in Buncombe County, N.C., accumulated by Ezekiel Henry McCluire through his law practice, chiefly 1830-1860; some legal and personal correspondence of McCluire; and postmaster's accounts, Reems Creek, Buncombe County, 1858-1864. Persons mentioned in the legal papers include Zebulon Baird, Daniel Blake, Solomon Brigman, G. K. Cessna, G. D. Phillips, James W. Patton, Walter Beatty, James Greenlee, William Mills, John H. Pearson, Samuel W. Davidson, John D. Poteet, and David L. Swain. There are also some fragmentary notes on travels and accounts and a few letters to other members of the extended McCluire family.
