Judith White Brockenbrough McGuire was the wife of John P. McGuire, principal of Episcopal High School, Alexandria, Va. She authored "The Diary of a Southern Refugee," published in 1867 and reprinted in 1986.

The collection is an apparent address by an unidentified Southern woman in 1925. Excerpts from Judith White Brockenbrough McGuire's diary (published in 1867 as "The Diary of a Southern Refugee" and reprinted in 1986) are interspersed with comments, many suggesting how McGuire's experiences reflect the noble qualities of Southern women during the Civil War.
