Lucy McIver of Society Hill, S.C., attended school at Greenville, Columbia, and Charleston, S.C.

The collection contains family and personal letters received by McIver from her sister, Sarah M. Pressley at Society Hill, and from other relatives, friends, and classmates while she was in school. The letters deal almost exclusively with family and personal news. There are only three items after 1859.
