The collection contains courtship letters circa 1909-1911 between Mary Norman Leland McKeithen, called Norman, and her fiance Edwin T. McKeithen written while Norman was a student at Converse College in Spartanburg, S.C., and Edwin worked in Rockingham, N.C., in real estate and insurance as well as letters circa 1911-1926 written after their marriage while Mary Norman Leland McKeithen was visiting family in Johnson City, Tenn., and Clayton, Ala. There are also letters between Mary Norman Leland McKeithen and her parents on the occasion of her engagement and her honeymoon; a 1913 letter to Mary Norman Leland McKeithen's mother Effie Williams Leland from a family member relating his desertion to Canada during the Civil War; a letter, dated 1927, from Edwin T. McKeithen to his fifteen year-old son urging him to delay playing football; and other items.

McKeithen dated 1911 to his mother-in-law Effie Williams Leland written ten days after his marriage.

Contains a letter dated 1913 to Effie Williams Leland from a family member in Eufaula, Ala., relating his experiences in the Confederate Army, his desertion to Canada, and his return home through Cuba. Also contains a letter dated 1927 from Edwin T. McKeithen to his 15 year-old son urging him to delay playing football.
