Abstract Paul Agalus McMichael (1820-1869) was a school teacher, county treasurer, and Confederate officer with the 20th South Carolina Infantry Regiment. The collection includes typed transcriptions of Civil War papers of Lieutenant Colonel McMichael, including a diary, 1864-1865, McMichael kept in Virginia and in prison at Fort Delaware, Del., letters to his wife from South Carolina and Virginia, and personal accounts; and a few antebellum and postwar business papers from Orangeburg, S.C.
