Volume 1: Forbes and Garrenton account book, 1860-1862, 1866, 1884-1888.

Accounts receivable ledger, general merchandise accounts of Forbes and Garrenton, Old Trap, Camden County, N.C. Accounts are listed by the name of the individual showing date, item(s) purchased, cost, and payments in cash, kind, labor, or slave hire. Scattered throughout the volume are diary-like entries made 1884-1886 and 1888 by J. H. Godfrey about the weather, work on his farm, and occasional personal events. There are also scattered transcriptions of religious poetry and drafts of letters in the same hand.

Business account book of the Blue Ridge Springs Company, operator of a resort hotel near Roanoke or Lynchburg, Va. The account book details the building and furnishing of the hotel by the owner and manager, Colonel N. Cobb.

Some of these account books were kept by the William E. Dibrell Printing Company and some by the Walthall Printing Company, both of Richmond, Va. Walthall Printing Company was incorporated on 23 December 1907 and opened for business 16 January 1908. After 1930, the companies merged to become the Williams Printing Company of Richmond. These records include information about printing supplies and paper supply houses and about types of work done. Included are expense accounts, trial balances, and cash books.

There are also shipping accounts for leather.

Volume 23: Saint Luke's Episcopal Church account book, 1910-1936.

Acquisition Information: Gift, 1984.

Account book, 1910-1931, of Saint Luke's Episcopal Church, Tarboro, N.C., William Augustin Perry, treasurer, consisting of records of money received at collections in services and of various disbursements. Saint Luke's was an African American parish. Inserted in the volume are two social letters: one dated 26 February 1935 from George Markin to "friend Weston" and another, 25 July 1936, from C. T. Everette to an unidentified correspondent.

Volume 24: David Minton Wright account book, 1855.

Acquisition Information: Gift, 1988.

Account book of David Minton Wright, a physician in Norfolk, Va., August-September 1855. The book bears this inscription, written by David Minton Warren: "Given by Minton W. Talbot to Pencie Creecy Warren and by her to David Minton Warren, July 1955. This appears to be an account of Dr. David Minton Wright's and (if so) it covers the period of the yellow fever epidemic in Norfolk." Entries give patient's name, a brief indication of visits made, and charges.

Blacksmith’s ledger, 1860-1862, kept by Sidney Whitted of Chapel Hill, N.C., including accounts with various individual in Chapel Hill for horseshoeing, sharpening tools, repairing tools and wagons, and other jobs. There are approximately 130 pages. Pictures have been pasted over the accounts on a few pages near the end of the book.
