Abstract | Julius Walker Wright (1838-1878), lawyer and Confederate soldier, was the son of Joshua G. and Mary Ann Wright of Wilmington, N.C. Julius married Mollie Murdock in 1868 and moved to Kansas City, Mo. Family correspondence and business papers, chiefly 1840-1871, of members of the Wright family of Wilmington, N.C., and elsewhere, including Julius Walker Wright, his wife, Mollie (Murdock) Wright, his father, Joshua G. Wright, and mother, Mary Ann Wright. The papers, 1820-1860, consist of correspondence of Mary Ann Wright, mainly with her sister, Emma Smith Walker; of Harriett and Ann Murdock and their family, of Philadelphia, Pa.; of Arthur Ritchie and his wife, Mary; and of Robert Bridges Murdock, of Golumbus, Ga. From 1860 to 1878, the papers are those of Julius W. Wright, Confederate soldier and lawyer of Wilmington, pertaining mostly to Reconstruction conditions and the practice of law in Wilmington; and from 1876-1879, there are a few letters pertaining to life at the University of the South. Prior to 1820, there are wills, business accounts, and a few scattered letters. Also, abstracts of sermons, poems, and articles written by J. W. Wright. Volumes consists of receipt books of Miss Mary Bridges, law notes of Joshua G. Wright, account books, scrapbooks, and the diary, 1859 and 1862, of Julius W. Wright. |
