Abstract S. Vance Pickens (1836-1920) was a Confederate officer, Democratic party official, lawyer, and businessman of Hendersonville, N.C. The collection contains records of S. Vance Pickens, including merchandising account books and assorted other items, all relating to Henderson County, N.C. The account books cover scattered periods, 1854-1884. Other items include a brief autobiography; minutes of a reading club, 1875; minutes of a lawyers association, 1883-1884; accounts of a building and loan association, 1887-1890; a commonplace book, 1855-1868; a political scrapbook, 1888; and other items pertaining to local matters.
