Wiley Britton Sanders (1898-1973) was an authority on criminology, pioneer in social work, and professor of sociology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was also a bird watching enthusiast and was active with the Chapel Hill Bird Club.

The collection includes the bird watching notebooks of Wiley Britton Sanders containing detailed observations of birds and their nests within a seven-mile radius of Chapel Hill, N.C. There are also 57 color photographs illustrating these observations taken by Wallace Patterson, professional photographer.
