Archibald Henderson Scales (1868-1952) was a rear admiral in the United States Navy. Scales was the son of Junius Irving Scales and Euphemie H. Henderson Scales. He entered the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md., in 1883. His wife was Harriet Pierce Graham Scales.

The collection is scrapbooks containing correspondence, official orders, pictures, and clippings documenting the career of Archibald Scales as a United States Naval Academy cadet, officer on active service, commander of the Great Lakes Training Station during World War I, and superintendent of the Naval Academy, 1919-1921. Items reflect Scales's involvement with the U.S.S. Missouri, 1907-1909; U.S.S. Prairie; U.S.S. Delaware, 1916-1918; U.S.S. Arkansas flagship, 1921-1923; and visits of various foreign dignitaries and diplomats including King George V of England and the Prince of Wales, the royal family and Cardinal Desire Mercier of Belgium, the king of Denmark, and British Admiral David Beatty, among others.
