Abstract George William Swepson was the treasurer of the Wilmington and Weldon Railroad and president of the western division of the Western North Carolina Railroad. The collection includes legal proceedings and correspondence in the case of North Carolina versus Swepson and Littlefield, a Reconstruction railroad fraud in which Swepson was involved with General Milton Smith Littlefield (1830-1899).

The collection includes legal proceedings and correspondence in the case of North Carolina versus Swepson and Littlefield, a Reconstruction railroad fraud in which George William Swepson was involved with General Milton Smith Littlefield (1830-1899). Items include certified copies of briefs, order of certiorari, the opinion of Judge W. B. Radman, a list of state's witnesses, and letters about the case.
