Abstract Howard Thomas (1899-1971) of Mt. Pleasant, Ohio, was an artist, professor, and administrator at Wisconsin State Teachers College, 1930-1942; the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, 1942-1943; Agnes Scott College, 1943-1945; and the University of Georgia, 1945-1965. The collection contains the personal and professional papers of Howard Thomas, including correspondence, exhibition catalogs, notes, lectures, and other materials related to his work and teaching. Correspondents include Josef Albers, George Barford, Edmund Boerner, Edward W. Bramlette, Erwin M. Breithaupt, Howard Conant, George Cress, Lamar Dodd, Berry Fleming, R. Buckminster Fuller, Carl Holty, Morris Knight, Lamar Lynes, Patricia Marie Minser, Robert Von Newmann, Abbott Pattison, James J. Sweeney, Gudmud Vigtel, Betty A. Wallace, Ferdinand E. Warren, Donald L. Weismann, Marguerite Wildenhain, Ulfort Wilke, and Emory Rose Wood. Other items include clippings, photographs of paintings, notebooks of painting records, 1921-1971, and assorted diaries, 1923-1971. The Addition of 2016 includes correspondence between Howard Thomas's widow Anne Wall Thomas and various art institutions regarding sales and exhibitions of Thomas's work after his death. Correspondence is primarily with Ulfert Wilke, Director of the Museum of Art at the University of Iowa.
