Abstract The Unitarian Universalist Association is a religious tradition formed through the 1961 merging of the Universalists (founded in 1793) and the Unitarians (founded in 1825). The Universalist Convention of North Carolina was formed in 1895 with the goal of promoting coordinated growth of Universalism in eastern North Carolina. It comprises Unitarian, Universalist, and Unitarian Universalist congregations across the state. The collection contains records of the Universalist Convention of North Carolina. There are records, 1846-1847, from Limestone Church, the first Universalist Church in Duplin County, N.C. There are also records, 1897-1929, from Magnolia Church, including an undated list of officers; a program from 1908; a sheet of meeting minutes, 1922; and donation slips and envelopes, 1921-1924. Also included are materials relating to the first through 88th annual sessions of the Convention, 1906-1993; annual reports; records from special executive board meetings; and documents from the Coastal Carolina Extension Project (1986), the Eastern North Carolina Program Resources Project (1987-1988), and the Proposal for a Universalist Foundation (1987).

The Unitarian Universalist Church is a religious tradition formed through a merging of two religious denominations in 1961: the Universalists (founded in 1793), and the Unitarians (founded in 1825). The Universalist Convention of North Carolina was formed in 1895 with the goal of promoting coordinated growth of Universalism in eastern North Carolina. In 1905, the Convention received a charter of incorporation from the state, giving it non-profit status. It is comprised of various Unitarian, Universalist, and Unitarian Universalist congregations across the state; it publishes a newsletter called The Tar Heel Universalist.

There are also records, 1897-1929, from Magnolia Church, including an undated list of officers; a program from 1908; a sheet of meeting minutes, 1922; and donation slips and envelopes, 1921-1924. Also included are materials relating to the first through 88th annual sessions of the Convention, 1906-1993; annual reports; records from special executive board meetings; and documents from the Coastal Carolina Extension Project (1986), the Eastern North Carolina Program Resources Project (1987-1988), and the Proposal for a Universalist Foundation (1987).

Original documents from Limestone Church, the first Universalist Church in Duplin County. Materials include a bound, handwritten book with the Universalist constitution and a church manual. The manual includes the service at the reception of church members and church records that contain a synopsis of the organization and history of the Universalist Church in Duplin County. The folder also contains a partial transcription of the handwritten manuscript.

Magnolia Church record book #05326, Series: "Records, 1846-1993." Folder 2

A bound, handwritten record book from Magnolia Church in North Carolina. The book contains handwritten pages, 14 February 1897-4 February 1929. It begins with a constitution, the principles of faith, and a list of members with addresses. Church records date from the first meeting of Magnolia Church on 14 February 1897. Included are records of church donations and notes on each Sunday meeting and the name of the preacher present.

Includes a bound book with the first 39 pages handwritten and the remainder typed and pasted into the book. The handwritten pages cover the First-Fourth annual sessions, 1906-1909. The typed pages cover the Fifth and Sixth sessions, 1910-1911. Pages 1-89 are transcribed. Pages 136-157 document the sessions of the executive board, 3 November 1906-27 January 1912. Typed minutes from the first meeting of the executive board of Magnolia Church, 1906, are also included.
