Abstract Correspondence and writings of Van Noppen, native of the Netherlands and poet who lived in New York and lectured on Dutch language and literature. The collection includes typescripts of his writings; correspondence concerning his education in North Carolina and the Netherlands; correspondence with friends and relatives, publishers, prospective employers, and literary patrons; correspondence while a United States naval attache at the Hague and London during World War I; and a diary (34 pages) kept by Van Noppen while he was at the Hague, 9 April-17 September 1918, concerning meetings with Dutch leaders and the political situation in the Netherlands. Papers after Van Noppen's death concern his wife's efforts to have his long poem on evolution, Cosmorama, edited and published; his wife's associations with Universal Order, a mystical cult; and, after Mrs. Van Noppen's death, disposition of the papers. Volumes include reviews and critiques of Van Noppen's work, clippings, and notebooks.
