Abstract Samuel Hoey Walkup was a colonel of the 48th North Carolina Infantry Regiment, Confederate States of America. The collection contains miscellaneous papers, including the Civil War diary of S.H. Walkup while stationed in Virginia and eastern North Carolina; and letters written home from the front. The diary describes the formation of the 48th North Carolina Infantry Regiment and its participation in the Peninsula Campaign, the battles of Bull Run, Antietam, and Fredericksburg, and the siege of Petersburg.
