Abstract Richard Everard Meade was a physician, of Amelia County, Va. Members of the Whitaker family lived in Halifax County, N.C. The collection contains family correspondence of Richard Everard Meade up to 1808 (including a few Revolutionary War items), and of Meade and his son-in-law at various places in Alabama and Mississippi, 1828-1866. Also included are scattered family papers, 1775-1893, of the Whitaker family of Halifax County, N.C., including letters from Confederate soldiers and a lawyer's letterpress copybook, 1890-1893.
