Jesse Johnson Yeates (1829-1892) was a Hertford County, N.C., lawyer, a member of the North Carolina legislature, a Confederate officer, and a United States Representative.

The collection is the papers of Jesse Johnson Yeates, a Hertford County, N.C., lawyer including two letters, 1860-1861, to his wife while he was a member of the legislature, chiefly about family matters and Civil War news, and daguerreotypes of Yeates and his wife.
