Extent: 1,562 items comprised of 982 black-and-white photographs, 358 color prints, 45 black-and-white negatives, and 177 color negatives. The collection is housed in 6 boxes.
Format(s): black-and-white photographs, many on pages that were once in albums; 35mm black-and-white negatives, and 35mm and 120 color negatives.
Collection Description: The collection documents activities of the United States Naval ROTC unit located on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. It covers the time period from 1941 through approximately 1985. Included are some materials relating to the United States Navy Pre-flight School located at the university during World War II.
Boxes 1 through 4 contain pages from a disassembled album covering the period 1941 through 1973 or 1974.
Box 5 holds an album dealing with the UNC NROTC sailboat "Rainbeau."
Box 6 contains an album about the NROTC pistol team in ca. 1979; 10 folders of photographs labeled: Alumni, Battleships, Military Ceremonies, Military Training, Personnel, Sailing and Sailboat Photos (1982), Sailing and Sailboat Photos (1984), Sailing and Sailboat Photos (undated), Black-and-White Negatives, Color Negatives.
