Chuck Berry, Spirit, Muddy Waters, the J. Geils Band, Alex Taylor, the Allman Brothers Band, and Tom Rush performed at "Jubilee," a three-day musical event held on the University's Navy Field.
June 24, 1971
Playmakers Theatre, formerly called Smith Hall, was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
November 21, 1971
Following a dance at the Student Union, Chapel Hill resident James Lewis Cates was killed during a fight in the Pit.
