The women's soccer program played (and won) its first game, blanking Duke University 12-0.
October 1, 1979
The University’s Program in the Humanities and Human Values began. Warren A. Nord, the first director, served from its inception until June 30, 2004.
December 10, 1979
Louis Round Wilson died in Chapel Hill only a few days before his 103rd birthday. Wilson, who served as University Librarian and as an advisor to several presidents and chancellors, was instrumental in the establishment of the School of Library Science (now School of Information and Library Science), serving as its first director in 1931-1932. Wilson Library, home of the University Library's Special Collections, is named in his honor.
