Tobacco Bag Stringing
Hattie Sprouse

SPROUSE, MRS. HATTIE, 714 Perry St., South Richmond, Va.; age 22, husband 31; three infant children living with her.

INCOME: Their only income is a $5 a week relief meal ticket.

HOME CONDITIONS: They have three rooms which are well furnished and clean, but the house itself is in bad shape. They seem to be getting enough to live on with the help of bags. She pays water bill of 66 cents a month, the rent and lights are given to them and fuel and food come from relief. She has been stringing for three years and makes $7.00 a month. Her Eyes are weak and if she does this work at night it makes them tired. Since this is the only cash income they have, it is all they have to buy clothes and other things that are not given to them.
