Georgia native Fiddlin' John Carson, whose recordings for Ralph Peer's Okeh record company sparked an interest in hillbilly music. Aware of the fiddler's wide appeal in Atlanta, record dealer Polk Brockman convinced Peer to record Carson. Peer, looking for something new to boost lagging sales, agreed.
